About Friends of the Earth Farm

Hi Folks,

We, the community at Friends of the Earth Farm (FOTE Farm) want to welcome you to take a peek at our adventures and exploits as we co-create a wonderful sustainable lifestyle in Auburndale, Nova Scotia. Only 2 years ago Jason bought the property with the intention of creating a sustainable community. Since that time we have acquired chickens and Pigs; dug lots of gardens and started building a greenhouse.

The aim of FOTE Farm is to become a living example of the abundance that can be grown in our own backyards. We grow veggies in the gardens and are selling them at the local farmers market, and we have experimented with a model for community-supported pork.  We also plan to provide a venue for workshops, retreats and festivals, designed to promote sustainable practices and healthy living habits.

The farm is worked in an all organic and natural manner. We take great pride to be growing natural food the way that Mother Nature intended it. We are all just learning about how to run a farm, but are having fun with each mistake and success. The goal is to become as sustainable as possible and to provide a model for others to follow and learn from. As the world transitions from reliance on chemicals and oil towards a reality where these things are becoming more and more expensive and rare we hope to inspire and teach others to do the same.

There are many friends out here on the farm- not all of them human 😉 I have been passionate about relocalization and sustainablity since my time at Dalhousie in 2004-05; and now have the opportunity to put all my ideas and dreams into reality!
It’s all about creating community- both within the bounds of the farm itself, and the wider world within which we are actively involved in.

Although Wesley is currently working in Alberta, He was the driving force behind much of the work accomplished on the farm over the last year. His lifelong dream has been to grow his own food and tend to his own livestock. Purchased as a partnership between His son Jason and himself, the FOTE farm represents two generations trying to live in a more sustainable manner.

Sarah Walker

Hello Friends,
I grew up in Calgary, Alberta and moved out to the east coast several years ago. I have slowly placed more priority on living more naturally and sustainably. I guess I’m a farm girl in training. Read my posts and follow my adventures as I learn about living on a farm and making a new life here on the farm.
Namaste,
Sarah
